AZL doesn’t get to dig its swimming pool next to the reservation, after all. This is how the “bulk sampling site” started out in the 2021 proposal:

“A 320-class diesel-powered excavator with 10-wheel dump truck would access the bulk sampling site and excavate the contents of the 30-foot long by 20-foot wide site to a maximum depth of 16 feet while loading the adjacent 10-wheel dump truck with material for transportation to off-site milling and classification. The proposed bulk sample site would remove up to 50-tons of material and would target formations containing metals potential.”

Now, AZL has settled for three holes with a 3-foot (about 1 meter) diameter. But they can go down as much as 100 feet (30 meters), so the total sample removed and then replaced could be three times as much:

“For bulk sampling, a track-mounted boring auger would access the bulk sampling site andexcavate the contents of three 3-foot-diameter holes to a not-to-exceed depth of 100 feet, whichallows collection of 2,000-pound bulk sample within a single bulk bag. The 2,000-pound bulkbags would be palletized and transported via flatbed truck for transportation to off-site millingand classification. In total, boring and sampling would remove approximately 100–150 tons ofmaterial from the three bore holes at the bulk sampling site."

What should we call these: super-holes? Or maybe that name is already taken by AZL fans.
