The assets in the game are uniquely owned (on the blockchain) by the players.
Ultimately the idea is that you can take certain items from within one game to another game - so you might own a car in the F1 game that you can store in your garage in your plot of land in Decentraland.
As the games assets are on the blockchain ownership is unique and verifiable. AB1 likens this development to the early stages of the Internet in the 90s, once mass adoption starts taking place it will be our new norm for communication & ownership, and their hypothesis is that gaming is the medium through which this adoption will be spawned and tested.
Probably the best place to start is with some of Yat's interviews on YouTube or the Sandbox blog entries on Medium.
