This is completely illegal underneath the Australian constitution. It is one of the fundamental rules of Federation. There are no provisions or excuses. The federal govt would be entirely within the law and enforcing the law to stop this immediately, by force if necessary. It is a criminal offence. To see state police enforcing state government rules which are illegal under the Constitution is unprecedented.
It is also fairly ridiculous as the bug is in all states.
