gkm "Fundamentally - I cannot seem to find a better positioned stock in this sector for a mid-long term investor"
-thumbs up from me; totally agree with your assessment. I have this share both as a trader [ahem ...getting there] and as a longterm holder for our smsf [in the money, looking forward to seeing its value multiply over the coming years]. The unexpected div. makes a real difference as we have quite a few thousand shares in LNC in our smsf.
Linc as a major energy player on the world stage is IMHO going to become a reality sooner [5-10yrs] rather than later [15-20yrs]. PB controlling the company I view as a plus, not as a problem -I don't see him surrendering his obvious vision/passion to anyone else [sharing it yes]. This is how some little companies become so successful -the vision of one person, along with the ability to employ very capable staff [I have no problem with the offering of shares to such people as an incentive/recognition of performance].
Apportioning a small %age of this tenement sale as a div. is a sensible decision -a recognition of the risk that investors have been prepared to make in supporting this company [I'm referring more to longer-term shareholders here], leaving the bulk to be added to the remaining tenement sales for future ongoing research/development/plant & mine infrastructure etc. Who knows, we may even see another div. upon future tenement sales?!
To be honest, I hadn't factored in a div. so soon [I had had anticipated a div. at the completion of the third tenement], and I'm not bothered in the least that PB gets $squillion$ himself -envy produces no positive outcome.
If we do have a "double dip" recession overseas [and I must admit I have cashed up a portion of our smsf in anticipation -thank you RIO, FMG & WOR] I would have to be looking at the opportunity to buy more LNC. I only allow any one company to occupy a certain $ %age of our portfolio and LNC is sitting there at the moment, so would look to the opportunity a sudden plunge in the stockmarket would bring. Pls don't take the above as advice -just my strategy to ensure I don't allow any one share to occupy too high a proportion of our portfolio.
Thanks again for you post gkm -like you attitude!
