These are the WMD, if he still has them, the US sold him B & B....

The loss of Iraqui lives both military and civilian is appalling. Saddam surely knew what would be the fate of these troops and is clearly quite happy to sacrifice them. Monster that he is.

At the same time it is becoming clearer that the real war, the taking of Baghdad, is yet to come. While the neocons and their armchair supporters at HC have demonstrated their shallowness of thought by underestimating the number of troops required, one can have little faith in their ability to prosecute a "successful" outcome. This promises to be the real blood bath as opposing troops engage each other in the streets of Baghdad with maximum collateral damage all around.

Did the Americans really think that the war would be over in a couple of short weeks with Iraq quietly capitulating and saying "gee thanks for coming boys..." If so that was the height of stupidity and poor planning. On the other hand if they really knew that it would come down to bloody street to street fighting then again, they have no chance of winning the "Hearts and Minds" war that would make the post war Iraq a viable possibility. either way, the scenario, war or peace is set to fail and fail it will.

My guess is that Saddam is already gone from Iraq. Vanished just like Bin Laden and they will never find him. Another symbol of American stupidity and arrogance gone west....

What will have been achieved? The Middle East in turmoil. Old alliances between friendly Western powers in tatters, The UN, the only current hope for something approaching cooperation and responsibility among nations undermined and the world a much more dangerous place than it has been for the last 50 years.

Great work Bush Blair and Howard. You all will be execrated by history.
