Well, once profiling by race or religion was out.....to ill effect in one case.

A country town's newspaper warned of a "daring daylight thief".

They did NOT mention that this guy was raping and bashing the women he encountered....or his ethnicity.....until the 13th victim ,from memory, who happened to be the wife of a Police Sergeant.....after which his actions and ethnicity were made public. Could have saved some women a lot of trauma if the facts had been published in full earlier, and people would have looked out for a person of a certain ethnicity hovering around......political correctness gone very wrong, with disastrous (for some) consequences.
So, you can be damned if you do, damned if you dont.....
Some of those women were literally black and blue...with the rape on top.
People were not happy.
