The modernisation of the worlds poorer nations and a surge in the global middle class is not a trend that has disappeared. It will continue for decades and wont be achievable with current renewable tech.
These countries will be reliant on fossil fuels for their development, but at the same time global reliance on coal and oil is expected to decrease while gas demand is expected to continue to increase for decades. Australia's LNG exporters are going to need a lot more gas to meet this increasing demand, and this will play a far more pivotal role than local demand and renewable uptake.
