Government procurement doctrine considers the payment of accounts as an attractive benefit. Financiers like any government procurement orders because they are bankable. This order is financially beneficial now but has longer term reach.
If NSW successfully applies the technology it has purchased, it is highly likely other states will examine it closely. The public Pathology sector across states cooperates and supports each other particularly well. There is a state pathology group that now includes all states and Territories. Lets hope the swab works well and the obvious benefit of this option over a cotton bud piercing the top of your head will take off; likely within the private sector too. Application in schools is fortuitous as it hopefully attracts positive publicity.
One caveat, be wary because technology advances in this sector are plentiful and while take up is much slower the need for any swab may have a limited lifespan. The impediment to alternatives is price and the price often has an odd relationship with actual cost.
