The Japanese market has been opening up and researching/testing fuel cells for quite a few years now. I think Ballard installed between 100-1000 units into residences during feasibility trials with either Tokyo or Oaska Gas about 5 to 6 years ago.

Panasonic is only one more fuel cell manufacturer/supplier but importantly it flys the right flag for the Japanese market!!!!!!!!! Copy, improve and mass market products worldwide seems to be the Asian way. What ever happened to those great German cameras etc etc........

As far as Fuel Cell Tech goes there are a number of Tech aproaches. CFU and a number of other players use Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Technology which like Beta is more efficient at the moment. So long as differant approaches can meet efficiency, life of cells and cost parameters then there is no real reason for end users to make any distinction between them.

With 30% of Japan reliant on Nuclear power ATM there may be very high demand from Japan to switch to Blugen and similar products in the light of recent events and possible Nuclear meltdowns. It is a huge potential market that would need many suppliers to meet demand.
