Some numbers, as to whether (at the moment) a utility would install in Melbourne.
Unit size Kw 2 Availability % 0.8 Output per Qtr Kwh 3504 Net in rate kwh p qtr 1450 Gas cost p qtr 164 All in Rate $ per kwh $0.20
Int Rate % per qtr 2% No Pmnts qtrs 36 (9 years) Payment -$413.88 FV $nil
Present Value $10,137
The net in is used in house, an average eastern suburb of 5.8Mwh p annum.
I have assumed the gas cost of the unit is zero, assuming this is the cost of hot water. Looking at the figures on domestic ave gas bill and the supplied cost of gas for the units it's about the same.
If the owner of the unit (house holder) can capture all of the feed- in rate, then they would pay a PV of 10.1k for the blue gen.
Still a bit thin. The utility has a lot more costs that these and the rent holder is not getting enough to fund it.
The 10k mentioned in another thread is looking pretty close.
The numbers in Europe are quite different because the power costs are so much higher, wholesale and retail.
