    you damage your credit rating by not paying your credit card bill as the cc company will notify the reporting agencies. a consumer will never default on an SPT payment as the whole process leverages your available credit card balance. having a positive credit rating is achieved by NOT having any defaults, low credit card limits, minimal personal debts etc.

    I buy a $1000 bike on a SPT 10 mth payment plan, straight away there is a preauth (hold) of $1000 put on my cc. after 1 month a charge occurs for $100 on my cc and a new preauth of $900 happens nulling the original $1000 preauth, so on and so forth.

    as you can see from above, the only default that can occur is related to you not paying your credit card monthly bill, not anything to do with SPT or the merchant.
