Great, you're asking the right people the right questions. This is a good thing. Now ask them what the geophysical response is of a magnetic granite caught up in a mylonite zone, or a block of competent felsic gneiss with metamorphic magnetite growing on the strain boundary. Now ask them how much nickel would you expect to find in either of these. Ask them how much magnetite you expect to get in a mafic intrusion associated with the right chemistry for nickel (trick question because the answer is zero for very well understood thermodynamic principles). While you're at it, you might want to ask them whether they've actually explored for nickel themselves or set foot in the AFO.
