Not sharp enough to put my finger on it at the time but the feeling inside my gut was that there was already some element of doubt about that rig but that the choice to go ahead was made regardless for the simple reason that there was no other viable rig option at the time. Now worst fears come back to bite us in the backside.
If I'm right in saying that there was some doubt factor there from the beginning, then prudence on Sam's part would have been to have had some sort of CONTINGENCY PLAN brewing behind the scenes even whilst drilling thru soil layers for Nicolay and GM. Looks like the thinking didn't happen that way as nothing has emerged post our drilling cessation setback. It seems like the thinking was more let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
