They survive on the taxes paid by Australian taxpayers. I suggest you stay informed rather than reach for the 'R' card. There are no special refugee payments or special rates of payments for refugees. Most refugees are of working age. This means that the main form of assistance provided to refugees is the Department of Human Services (DHS) Newstart Allowance (commonly known as unemployment benefits). As such, a single refugee receiving Newstart Allowance and sharing rented accommodation would currently receive $573.27 per fortnight (comprised of Newstart Allowance of $492.60 and Rent Assistance of $80.67). https://www.aph.gov.au/about_parliament/parliamentary_departments/parliamentary_library/pubs/bn/2012-2013/austgovassistrefugees#:~:text=%5B22%5D%20There%20are%20no%20special,commonly%20known%20as%20unemployment%20benefits).

Wrong. Most refugees are not allowed to work, and their access to benefits is limited. To the degree they get taxpayer assistance, it's the choice of the government to force them not to work. I never met a refugee who wasn't desparate for a job. I have been deeply involved in helping refugees for a decade, I promise I know the reality better than you
