    It may or may not be logical that "working Australians" claimed by Labor to be their heartland might also be statistically the most prolific smokers? I'm sure some clever google'r could find the info somewhere.

    If so, the 20% tax increase on smokes is a hit of $20-30 per week of after tax money for a significant part of the heartland, the part that can least afford it? If so, should we expect a new "compensatory tax" some timne soon?

    Smokers both insist on their rights and would expect a safety net of health care when/if they fall ill due to smoking? That duality has a familiar ring to it, but I can't quite place it.

    Just putting some different perspectives out there ... no comment though as to whether they are real or not ... after all, this is but a discussion.
