To make matters even worse, Defence announced that the Navy would be standing down for 2 months to give their people a nice Christmas.
That's a great announcement to all the people smugglers out there to get moving whilst the Navy people are tucking into the turkey.
The latest boat arrivals got as far as Shark Bay in WA, if you look at a map of Australia that's a bloody long way South to travel undetected.
Where is Coastwatch, the Navy and Air Force, Customs, Federal Police etc????
The NW of WA contains very strategic oil & gas infrastructure, how secure is this when boat people can get this close to WA undetected???
