    Julian's position is already well known - he is basically for letting anybody and everybody who arrives here by boat to stay- no ifs or buts, no matter if they sustain a people smuggling industry.

    His argument today is that the numbers are small - 4000 (I think he will be understating this year) and at that level he's probably got a good point.

    However.......

    When does he think the number would be too big? (maybe in his case never) What if it's 10,000 or 20,000? Does he change his attitude if it's 50,000? What number breaks the infrastructure and administration load for us to cope?

    If say it's 50k - what does he do to the 50,001st arrival? Send him home?

    He's a dreamer - doesn't have to face the conseqences of a number that results in a breakdown in our ability to manage the situation.

    It's not as simple as he claims. (never is)
