Another thought.
I just remembered another media article some time back mentioning the important part played by these bases in Gulf War Mk1, where Scudd missile launches were detected at the US base in Australia and relayed to the ME.
We had the US Navy communications base at Exmouth in WA with the ULF communications for the US nuclear submarine fleet. This has now been closed, I believe,( and maybe replaced by Geraldton Base 1)??
Australia is essential now. And with that comes 2 threats:
1. In a war with a country such as China, these bases on Australian soil would be the first targets for their IBM's. No?
2. Think about it. Heaven help any Australian polititical party who tries to interfere with their presence.
