South Korea has twice the population and 1/760 the land mass of Australia, so its economical for it to lay optic fibre, its not too hard to see itll be a complete disaster / astronomical waste of money for Australia to lay cables all the way around the country
fibre connection might be needed in capital cities where big business and research facilities perhaps need faster broadband, plus a few geeks and porn addicts, the overwhelming majority of whom live in the cities anyway
ADSL2+ is more than sufficient to meet the demands in rural areas
