Honest politicians are those who do the best thing for the country as a whole. They then hope that their electors and supporters get their fair share.
Unfortunately the trend is to look after supporters at the expense of others. Examples of this are businesses contributing to politicians,they must think thre is a payoff to their shareholders to make a payment of shareholder funds. Unions expecting their members and officials to be looked after.
If this goes on too long you get the PNG situation where politicians are given boxes of cash to distribute to their electors.
The problem with Independents is that they have no National agenda, they just look after locals. They are bludgers on the rest of us whose politicians are working on the wider agenda not for local payola.
Fundamentally votes for sale is corruption no matter how it is painted.
