I think they're fine.
Using govt (taxpayer) gteed deposits is just laziness for most. A portfolio of corporate bonds of investment grade is quite safe and earns about deeming rate or bit more.
And fully self funded retirees don't get any relief from lower interest rates which pull down rents, bond yields and dividends too.
