I wouldn’t totally dismiss this as being not viable or a threat to hard rock. The location of the Salar does have a wet and dry season, but because it is such a massive area the climate is quite varied, it may rain in one area of the Salar and not another. And looking at ‘the rainfall of Bolivia’ is not exactly helpful as Bolivia goes from the border of Brazil close to the Amazon rainforest which has a huge amount of rain, right up to the Atacama desert in the highlands where it hasn’t rained for years in some parts. The Salar de Uyuni has a climate closer to the latter, very low rainfall for most of the year. It’s like comparing far North Queensland with Tasmania, with the Tanami desert by looking a ‘the rainfall in Australia’. I also knew a Bolivian politician years ago, and the vibe I got was that anything could be achieved if you grease the right palms! So again I wouldn’t assume a deal couldn’t be worked out with Chile or Peru to get the product to port, in fact I think there is some kind of deal in place for most products.

So overall I do think this could be a threat, but not in the short to medium term. I’m pretty heavily invested in PLS (and AJM) so I’ll be quietly hoping that there are delays and complications getting this off the ground, but I’ll be keeping an eye on the progress and not putting my head in the sand.
