Unless I am mistaken, Aborigines are Australian. Why do they need special recognition? The constitution doesn't appear to recognize race though I haven't read it cover to cover.
Recognition won't create jobs, stop petrol sniffing, stop the grog, improve morbidity, empty the jails. What will it do?
Make some people feel warm and fuzzy inside.
If it doesn't cost the taxpayer anything it probably won't do any harm but what good will it do?
Do the civil rights lawyers have a series of rights to introduce or challenges to launch on the back of recognition?
It certainly won't change the course of history. A history that I am sure many would rather forget.
Kevin said sorry for part of this history but that didn't create jobs, empty the jails etc.
Is recognition really the most pressing issue when it come to improving the life of most indigenous Australians?
