In the "old days" we could think that the "discrimination" ambulance chasers would maybe keep the nation's interests somewhat at heart, and not exploit the dickens out if it for their own fun and profit and hang the consequences.
I reckon those faint hopes are dead,buried and cremated(alongside Granny's East Timor ssssssoloooshern).
This "industry" must be getting onto the radar as one of the country's great exports,at the expense of some of the real need of many of Granny's Austraaaayliens

It would be interesting to lift the skirts on this and see the % of GDP rise since the 1960's of all these add on costs for these aspiring Aussies.And the actual figures.
Many of us have at least a dollop of fairness in us...at least in theory, we would like to see people get a FAAAIR GO(thankyou laaayba)but the cost?????And the opportunity cost to existing Australian in need????
I wonder would our freedom of information rights to know this,stack up alongside the "rights" of the beneficiaries.
