Rather than purchasing Australian government bonds directly, you could always investigate the purchase of units of an exchange traded fund (ETF) that deals with Australian government bonds such as Vanguard Australian Government Bond ETF, which you can purchase directly on the Australian Stock Exchange under the ticker code VGB.
