IMO I think the majors would have it on their radar as its seems the technology is the way of the future. If they are not keeping up with the trends they are at real risk of loosing market share in fuels/energy.
Think about the changing of the guard of mobile phone companies. It used to be about Nokia and Blackberry, now its Apple and Samsung. This is due to the latter two not standing still.
