It describes the end of our current state of the world, the rule of man, and the return of Jesus in power and glory, the rule of God. And we are told that these events would happen soon, not thousands of years in the future. The author was speaking to his generation, not those two thousand years in the future and still waiting.
You know the verses that give a timeframe in terms of a generation.
