My heart goes out to you @kingpins that your lifelong reading pleasure has been curtailed in this most awful way.
On the flip side, clearly you know what you're missing, and have the pleasure of recall of probably thousands of works since you were a child.
Your encouragement is well placed. What an asset you'd be as an advocate and some-time listener at school literacy programs. (or adult ones for that matter)
Like you I don't accept anything but the authors work in hard copy in my hands, although as discussed with @alonso previously, book readings on late night / early morning radio were a viable alternative as at the time I had my hands full, packing bananas.
