Short books used to be more common than I think they are now.
Like dinner plates and cups were smaller.
Graham Greene was a writer noted for very concise writing and he was not unusual for his time.
But they don't come much shorter than this collection of short stories by HE Bates under the title "The Yellow Meads of Asphodel".
I particularly like the one entitled The Love Letters of Miss Maitland which is no 4 of 7. An imagined romance is confected into reality but it can't last.
