I agree that many older generation authors had a greater vocabulary than most of todays writers, I also agree that most of todays journalists can hardly form a correct sentence let alone write anything worth reading.
Someone mentioned Jack London, he had great use of the English language and I enjoyed "The Sea Wolf". (more than "The Call Of The Wild").
I also like the Arthur Upfield "Bony" novels for old Australian bush detective stories and Peter James / Michael Connelly for modern day detective stories.
I just finished "The Snowman" by Jo Nesbo which was an interesting serial killer novel.
Interested to see what others enjoy reading.
