ANZ will be allowed to go ahead with merger of Suncorp Bank. Biggest loser is probably Bendigo given they were ready to move in if the decision was different. For mid tier players it's puts them under further scrutiny given the margin improvement options are harder given the lack of scale. Any merger is difficult in the short term but longer term the benefits flow so BOQ has some time to continue with current plans but ultimately will need to get/buy scale or sell out. IMO.
