I think even if the Coalition did support it it would not get through the Green's Senate. The same Greens who won't support it through the lower house as well. That's why Gillard has not put it to the vote. But the ALP and their supporters don't seem to understand that or more likely try and deceive/spin that it's Abbott's fault. Majority of Australians are smarter than Gillard and Bowen realize.
When the Coalition get back in and stop the boats again, it will just be another reminder of the failed ALP/Greens/Ind minority Govt we had that refused to use a working policy.
