The AFL has certainly got its problems.

We're only 1 game into Round 16 with seven rounds to go and the Top 8 is set in stone meaning for the remainder of the season we have dozens of dead rubbers with zero interest because 10 clubs have no chance of making the finals.

Even the matches involving teams in the Top 8 have reduced interest because the teams in the Top 8 are guaranteed to make the finals, so they're just jockeying for their positions within it.

Despite all the so-called measures put in place by the AFL to have an even competition, Hawthorn continues to brush aside the competition.

If that isn't enough the AFL has created a monster in GWS which has an even stronger outlook for the next 10 years than Hawthorn have had for the past 10 years.

Those decrying Hawthorn's dominance up to this point in time will be doing the same about GWS sooner rather than later, and the AFL will be the poorer for it as a competition as the gap between the strong, mediocre and weak teams widens, and the crowds and TV audiences continue to drop off as a result.
