I really hope the UK experiment works. There's no cynicism from me at all.
If a leader can get vaccinations up to a high level, then open up and return to normal life, then I think that's awesome. Family gatherings, weddings, funerals, birthdays, anniversaries, concerts, sporting events, religious ceremonies and more make us more human.
It doesn't matter whether I am a Tory or Boris fan (I'm not). The people in the UK have gone through so much recently, and they have suffered the biggest economic fall since 1719. Terrible confusion, sustained lockdowns, civil unrest, economic hardship, social division and more.
They deserve to get a break. Given half a chance, the UK will fight back. Fingers crossed.
Yes I know that there's every chance that the UK might become a Petri Dish for new variants of Covid and send them out to the world. Too late now. They've made the choice. I sincerely hope it's the right one, and the world can learn from the whatever comes from their decision.
