As an old guy born into rural poverty, becoming a politician was never an option for me.
When I did my Matriculation [Y12] only 5% of students who'd started Year 7 did so - I had to win bursaries and scholarships just to remain at school! I certainly couldn't afford pub crawls and to complete university had to win a teaching studentship and work throughout holiday breaks and outside of classes - so did my wife!
As time progressed I realised just how useless and duplicitous most politicians are. That's why I chose public school teaching as a career - making a positive difference to the lives of battlers is fulfilling and rewarding.
