Based entirely off my reading of his tone and body language in interviews I believe he sincerely wants to get this to a mine, create a pipeline of resources in different geographies and train a team who can operate and expand DYL as well as a successor for his own role.
I think he's looking to build a legacy. That legacy was tarnished with PDN's near failure which was in large part down to his decisions around risk and debt so I think he's back to have another go at that.
