Compare our attitude to say, the Muslim Turks when we joined an invasion for of their country back in WW1

Now, yes, I understand the huge difference in the context but that's the not the point. The point is that they were willing to rise above pettiness to embrace their fallen enemies and the yanks aren't...out of spite.
