Can CBD act as an antibiotic? (BTX 1801)
This study has been recovered by Dr. Blaskovich who leads a research group from the Institute of Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland, Australia. Together with Botanix Pharmaceuticals Limited has proven that CBD can be effective against resistant bacteria for the past 60 years. According to this study, cannabidiol showed to present antimicrobial capacity against several bacteria, including bacteria that are highly resistant to antibiotics such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Clostridioides difficult. So it could be helpful in the treatment of this type of infections, as Cannabidiol has little tendency to produce resistance, unlike many antibiotics. It was also effective at altering biopelicles, a physical form of growth of bacteria that produces difficult infections, with the combination of CBD’s antimicrobial activity and anti-inflammatory capacity particularly appealing.
