That did happen with PAA and their Orphan Drug Designation from the FDA recently. Mainly based on my BOT/FDA experience, I was expecting it to go down to the last minute of the maximum review period, but they surprised everyone (including management) and the FDA provided ODD a whole month early!

And just an aside - PAA never went into a trading halt either. The FDA posted the ODD approval on their FDA Register during US office hours - so that info was available before the ASX opened, so no trading halt requested. I'm not sure if that could happen in our case - but I imagine it's a possibility.
