No real idea here and purely speculation (and maybe watched too many movies) but if a company is classed as international i.e. with a trial based in the US and Aus and they were the possible victims of industrial espionage would that mean that it falls within the jurisdiction of the FBI to investigate?
If they were would they be able to tell us anything about it?
