Have you read "Dark Pools" by Scott Patterson. It looks like even institutional fund managers are paying the price, hence our superannuation accounts as well. In fact I don't think you can even fill out an order form on an online trading platform without the algos taking it into account and planning their move against you before you even press the button. At the very least this data is sold on to them and incorporated into their computer analysis.
