I can honestly say that at no time has an algo system cost me money. Quite the opposite, at times it's provided me with liquidity that otherwise would not have been present.
We are participants in a competitive market, it's not a sport but a business where incomes are derived. I agree with your NBA analogy, I think those that are the most vocal about how bad things are are the ones unable to adjust to what is and will always be a dynamic market. But I guess it's easier to gather warm fuzzy social media support and sign petitions than to evolve as a trader.
