Bot as in robot.... basically computers doing trades on behalf of people. they set in parameters and hit the go button. this way they can keep the share price, up, down or sideways as they swap parcels of shares back and forth in nano-seconds.... so it places a lower packet on the market and another bot picks it up.... they do this back and forth lowering the price. same goes for riding it up or putting pressure on stopping a run.
they are easily spotted by the tiny packets traded at odd prices and the start or end of the day.... or generally... really small parcels sometimes less then a notional "minimum" trade. Anything less than <$500 is a bot (robot)"
