shorting by borrowing shares was only introduced recently.

the principal of selling what you already own for the purpose of buying at a cheaper price becuase you predict a fall in prices has been there since begining of human race.

you're right about investor protection but again that's a very long debate about market freedom & if those with an upwards outlook are only considered to be investors...... then those with DOWNWARDS outlook should be looked at as investors becuase they also risk capital & also need protection -----> if want to be totally objective & fair!!!

I do enjoy discussing this topic with you buddy but I don't think this is the right place for this discussion because this space is for AAR & I think other holders would like to read more about the company!!

if you want, we can take this discussion to the general forum & we can get many other opinions as well!
