this is a very smart move and shows that conti are going to do everything possible to create shareholder value.
I initially thought not a lot would happen with Botswana for a while and it did seem a waisted opportunity.
But Mashala no doubt instigated this report at the request of conti imo immediately after the acquisition terms were formalized:
"In September 2010, Mashala subsequently commissioned Gemecs to provide an updated report on the projects and to also provide a high level assessment and exploration target of the possible coal resources underlying the prospecting licence areas to establish an Exploration Target from which future exploration programs could be focused"
in reality they have the potential for proving:
"2.7 Bt of coal at shallow to moderate depth can potentially be exploited by conventional mining methods".
This is greater than probably anticipated in the acquisition announcement which stated
"Mashala has determined target mineralisation of +1 billion tonnes across its prospecting licenses"
So with drill rigs at their disposal this is obviously a fantastic opportunity to add to shareholder value by defining a JORC resource in an area that is currently getting a lot of focus. Can you believe in reality they got Botswana for free!
We now have the full picture. Proving in-ground resources in Botswana and developing Penumbra on top of existing and soon to be production should make 2011 a great year for conti - and as domum keeps reminding us 2012 looks even better.
All we wait for now is the section 11 approval. Exciting times indeed. I think it is going to be well worth the wait.
