Short covering rallies are always talked about but seem to be actually fairly rare. There doesn't seem to be much of connection between % of short interest and share price movement. That was the thing I was hoping to find when I created these charts.

There does seem to be some connection between percentage of daily shorts to percentage of longs. It is pretty difficult for a price to rise when daily shorts are over 40% but that does occur frequently with companies such as FMG.

Have a look at FMG and see the percentage of shorts broken down. The price movement seems to be independent of shorting.

ARI also shows indifference to shorting.

AGO does show a response especially after 40% of daily shorts.

Yes I do download the csv data from a number of sources . It doesnt take long

Just the OHLC and volume from comsec (during the day) and cooltrader at start of trading as it is more complete.

Poor old ARI is becoming dislodged from its movement with other ironers. It used to be very highly correlated and now it is going its own way.
