The American banks are reporting dodgy accounting profits. They arent real profits. You should look into that further and read about the sections that they have suspensed for teh standards to allow this.
Its just peolpe like me playing around with the numbers to get a result that barely conforms to the standards. Thats why our banks have been making the same gains, our accounting bodies dont tend to compromise as easily with accurate disclosure
