As you know, l have been interested in the ev ute story for a long time .

Using the performance and data of a Rivian as a basis l have been overlaying that info as l use my diesel ute. lncluding towing etc.

So far l haven't found a situation where it wouldn't work. Nearly all the time it would be charged at home so for daily use that's no problem. With towing it's all about charging opportunities.

l recently did a Mel/Syd trip via Cann River . As an exercise l looked at the charging options along the way. l was amazed at how many chargers have popped up since l last checked about a year ago. There is plenty available and they are still building more.

The only issue l saw was that if you're towing you'd probably have to drop your trailer which would be annoying.

The charging times could easily be aligned with breaks. Unless you're in a hurry it's fine.

Even at Rivian towing range there was enough charging available. Fast charging is limited but more is being built.

My conclusion . lf a suitable ev ute was available today that had a 500km range l would buy it. Charging is already good enough and no doubt will be much better in a couple of years time.

So, despite the RWNJs that claim that they need to be able to tow their giant caravan across the Simpson twice a week, by the time ev 4wds hit the market here we'll be absolutely fine.
