'While most in Australia are/about to be dropped to $550 a week, footballers expect more."
Wrong! Like anyone who has signed a contract and has commitments to the value of their contracts, they are just doing what any other person would do in their position and fight for a certain percentage of their contracts to be honoured. You or we may not agree or think what they are doing is right, but they are in a bargaining position and any person within their right minds would try to do what's best for themselves in such tough times.
The irony is you are shit potting "footballers" and state that losing football would be a step forward, while you are probably turning on your netflix to have people who got paid HUGE $$$ in huge and an entertainment INDUSTRY to entertain you while you've got time off . Just remember if or when you go to switch on a devises to watch a tv show, movie etc that there are MANY who may differ from you and enjoy their sports (NRL and AFL in particular), just like you may enjoy taking in a movie from time to time.
Personally, AFL and NRL players will and should take a hit. However, I don't blame them one bit for fighting the percentage if they can to do what is best for themselves and their families, especially in light of their commitments they probably have.. If you were in their shoes you would. You quote he Average Australian dropping to $550, which i assume is about 50% or a touch more. I may be wrong, but i think they are asking for 50% as opposed to a proposed 70% aren't they? We may not agree with it , but if we were in their shoes, we would fight too.
