Dude you are being deliberatly ignorant - i.e. only hearing what you want to.
You post "Australian forests are lot better protected than those in PNG" as if that is rationale for it straight after I have posted -
"thats not the point - just because our forest protection is better than some other countries shouldn't give them the go ahead without a full assessment like every other development would have to. The state gov dealings with it have been borderline at best, blatantly writing new legislation so it could get through without a the normal (full) assessment. No small part of why our premier resigned a couple of days ago. "
And no there has not been an extensive public assesment of the Mill. The Feds did their job but that was only to assess a very limited portion of the projects effects on Commonwealth waters and threatened species - adn that is all the Feds are meant to do. The main assessment of all the issues is done at a State level. And Gunns pulled out of that State assesment when it was clear it wouldn't pass in its current form - So our dodgy ass State Gove wrote new legislation to get the mill a 'fast track' approval which didnt even cover 1/2 the issues!!! So no it has not had an extensive assesment at all!
